Imagine, if you will, that you’re sitting at a bar casually enjoying a drink after work, when suddenly something in your pocket begins to vibrate…
Casually reaching into your pants to whip out a recently purchased iPhone 4s, nonchalantly, of course — you want to look cool, after all, the other bar patrons may be watching.
Suddenly, disaster strikes!
Sliding your thumb across the touch screen to unlock the phone, your fingers cruelly fail to cooperate.
Fumbling the phone in your hands all pretense of looking cool flies out the window.
Desperate, you flail your arms about trying to slap the phone away from the lip of the glass of beer in front of you but to no avail… it dances around the brim.
Fate appears to be mocking you. On the precipice of disaster everything seems to be happening in slow motion.
The phone stops for a brief second, just long enough to hear the nonplussed bemused remarks of Siri (leave it to Apple to make a phone capable of confusion), and tips over, plunging to the bottom of the tumbler.
Just like that, it’s all over. The phone you were so proud of five minutes ago has been transformed into a sleek and stylish swill-soaked paperweight.
Devastated and with no other alternative you order another drink and begin thinking up a good excuse to give the insurance company when they ask you why your phone reeks of Guinness.
Thing of the Past
Thankfully embarrassing incidents like this will soon be nothing more than a painful distant memory as the tech company HzO has offered casual electronics users and techies of all shapes and sizes salvation in the form of their new waterproofing technology WaterBlock.
Unveiled at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, HzO WaterBlock protects electronics from water damage without the need for cumbersome and clunky cases.
Instead the phone’s – or any consumer electronic’s — logic board, transistors and batteries are coated with a waterproofing solution that shields the phone from damage even when completely submerged in water.
The New York Times gushed over HzO WaterBlock calling it one of the most astonishing products at CES.
And Forbes referred to the product as “revolutionary” in its review.
Paul Clayson, President and CEO, told reporters at CES:
The immense interest from media and potential customers at this show is strong validation of the strength of our technology and market timing for HzO.” You can see the video here:
The only potential downside is that HzO’s WaterBlock must be applied to the phone while it is being assembled, a retrofitting system was created for customers but it was not as efficient as the primary solution.
Right now the jury is still out as to which, if any, phone manufacturers will incorporate HzO’s WaterBlock technology but I personally believe they would be foolish not to.
HzO claims that their product will not add any additional strain to manufacturing costs and the blogosphere is abuzz about the product’s potential to be utilized both professionally and for — let’s just say — less practical measures.
The bottom line is HzO is definitely a tech company to keep an eye on in 2012.
Until Next Time,
Nate
